My name is Kirby Erdely. I am the owner and lead
designer at KE Designs. I have over 14 years of experience in the
field of custom woodwork, carpentry, and cabinetry. I have worked as a
finish carpenter, woodturning artisan, cabinet builder, and custom designer
since graduating from college in 1996. However, my interest in woodworking
started at an early age with my grandfather being a talented master carpenter.
I was
always building something with him when I was a kid. In fact, some of my favorite toys were made in his workshop.
I graduated with a degree in environmental science at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. I studied the interactions that humans have with their environment, both locally and globally. I carry many of those lessons with me today when I am designing cabinetry and furniture for my clients. I have chosen to work with manufacturers that have a proven track record of social and environmental responsibility. I personally love to reuse and reclaim building materials whenever possible. Not only are they good for the environment, used materials also have unique stories that I really enjoy incorporating into my projects. I am frequently seen at our local architectural salvage yards and rebuilding centers looking for inspiration or searching for a specific component for a project.
I have lived in the Columbia River Gorge since 2001. I spend my free time kiteboarding, mountain biking, snowboarding, kayaking, and surfing.
